Boy, it sure has been a bit since I’ve updated this bad mutha. Between moving houses, freaking out, and recording the new Taxpayers album, I sure got tied up.
Here are some quick updates on what’s going on with the Useless State Crew:
1.) Phil has a new band called Historical Babes. They’re awesome. Everyone coincidentally wears horn-rimmed glasses, its hilarious.
2.) Eric Frame flew out from Minneapolis to record the new Taxpayers LP. Its shaping up to be pretty awesome, has a lot of horns. Definitely a step in a different direction, we hope you like it!
3.) The Taxpayers are currently booking their summer tour of the United States. If you would like to help (and we would LOVE any help we can get), contact us at noah@thetaxpayers.net Here is a link to the schedule.
4.) Joe Destroy released a new free digital EP. Lo-fi bedroom blues, I really like it a lot. I have listened to it quite a bit in the last couple days. There is even a boss cover.
5.) Useless State All-rAges Shows! We have a couple of them coming up, check em out! They’re gonna be a hoot and very awesome!!!

It was an evening of adventure for The Taxpayers as they stepped into the narrow halls of web radio. Preparing for a “podcast”, they couldn’t know what was really in store. One is never sure while trapped in the sweltering confines of the always dangerous land of radio broadcast.
As the room was called to silence for the radio program to begin Noah caught a glimpse of a hand signal from one of the DJ’s. Springing into action he knocked away the switch board rigged with the “KILL BAND” switch, Danielle swung the lights towards our adversaries, and Phil brought the brightness to maximum! Rob yells “WE WILL ASK THE QUESTIONS NOW!” Hear the complete podcast and the conclusion of our story here:
Who doesn’t love a little more pop-punk in their lives?
Born out of a pick-up set after a show in Vancouver, Ethan (We Play Quiet), Phil Gobstopper (The Taxpayers), and Colin (Vancouver Burrito Project) decided to put their thick-framed glasses together and travel the Portland/Vancouver area singing about girls, weed, college, fantasy novels, and the rest of being 18-22.
Their first review was “Like if Buddy Holly and Fugazi had a baby, and that baby was really cool.” If that doesn’t spark your interest, not much will.
Shows coming up in March and April to be posted soon, along with demos and the rest. Also, we may be gettnig promotional temporary tattoos, so it’s worth showing up. Stay tuned!
The night will be hosted by the illustrious Panama Montana and will be filled with enthralling theatrics and zaniness. Everyone is a winner on Feb 20th!
What else makes this show so awesome? Well, most importantly the music! The night will feature the sweet sweet nautical love songs of the Atomic Butter Babes, the boptastic punk of Corvallis’s Angries, the epic return of Bear Feet, the karate politics of Nun Chuksky, and the garage party that is Archers.
The show will be filmed and recorded audially. Segments will be posted on the net for your viewing enjoyment.

Well, it’s officially-official: Los Moustachios are on the Useless State webpage now! This would have happened a long time ago, but much deliberation over a website was happened and one is finally up: Losmoustachios.com!!!
Who are the Los Moustachios!? Well, an awesome DIY film and performance group, that’s who!
Los Moustachios are the reason I moved out to Portland and has underwent many incarnations. Chris, Dan, and I meet in college through theatre (yup, n3rds!!!). Taking our craft into our own hands, we started an improve/stage group: PAWS OFTUN, along with a bunch of our other theatre dork friends. With that PAWS OFTUN, we wrote and performed three original II Act cabaret style shows and began making digital shorts. After Chris graduated, he moved to Portland. A year later, Dan and I moved out to continue working together with Chris. We then joined the film group Homeless Corner. HC later disbanded into many projects including: Coffee For Drew Productions, Mr. Average, Coree Spencer (doing solo work), and finally Los Moustachios.
Los Moustachios since have written and performed 3 more II Act stage shows pulling in multimedia elements, created more original films, ventured into the world of animation, and pioneered unique projection shows. Chris also began to work closely with Explode Into Colors, having co-created the piece Eyes Hand Mouth for TBA: 09 and performing music/projection/dance shows with them.
Recently, Los Moustachios have began hosting a monthly independent film showcase along with Portlandfilm.org and Suck My Productions called: Suck My Flick. A new stage act, Battlestar Moustachio is also in production. Premiering ???
Friday night, Stankhouse Records put together a showcase featuring Here Comes A Big Black Cloud, Tiny Knives, and Magic Johnson to celebrate the release of Tiny Knives’ new 7″. Sadly, I had to work a double that night and totally missed the show. Lame. Thankfully, Bad Times Brandon was on hand to film the show and share it with the world. The internet rules and so does Here Comes A Big Black Cloud.
It’s true and very very sad. Foot Ox played their last Portland show last night at The Camel House. Teague is moving out east towards Athens?, I wish him luck. There is rumor of Foot Ox reuniting for a tour this summer, which if true, would be faaaantastic.
Here is video of the entire show! This is brought to you via the awesomely awesome “Bad Times” Brandon. Brandon films a ton of PDX bands and post them to the web. My hero!
